Analysis of question 20 answers

As you come to the end of this quiz are you thinking?

a. I’m not so sure if I really want to move abroad

Emigrating is not easy and it’s not for everybody. That’s just as well, because somebody has to stay behind. Seriously, if you’re really not sure, don’t do it.

b. Nothing’s going to keep me in this miserable, damp and boring country

If you’re fed up and bored in Britain there’s a fair chance you’ll feel the same way in another country. Heading abroad is certainly not a solution to all your problems and nowhere’s been perfect since God chucked Adam and Eve out of Paradise.

c.The quiz has given me a few things to think about, but I’m pretty sure I’d like to move abroad

Well keep looking. Why not try posting a message on this website. There’s no better way of finding out if and where you want to move than by making contact with other people who are thinking of the same thing or who have already set up home abroad.

e. Why think? I believe in spontaneity so I’ll just grab a flight when I feel like it

There are people who’ve successfully emigrated just on a whim. Equally, there are those who’ve regretted that they didn’t spend a little more time thinking about what they were going to do. Think about what you might be giving up.

Conclusion

I hope this little quiz has been of some use to you. It can’t be perfect because everybody and every country is different. You can’t really compare the challenges of moving to a European Union country with emigrating to Australia or a Third World country.

The idea of this website and my forthcoming book for The Guardian on living and working abroad is to look at the challenges and opportunities in the places that are most popular with people leaving Britain. I’d love to hear from you whether you’re planning to head off for a new country or if you’ve already made the move.
